Paige Henry, an incoming college freshman, is a member of Servant Leaders Institute's inaugural youth cohort and mentorship initiative. Take a moment to learn more about Paige as a person and her experience in the cohort.

"I enjoy reading, learning historical facts, and shopping. While in school, I was member of the following organizations: SGA Attorney General, Beta Club Member, National Honor Society of the Dance Arts Vice President, Arts Ambassador for MSA, Member of POSE Fashion Magazine for MSA.

Learning how to find and analyze school board policies for ones district was important to me during my time in the cohort. The following were also vital aspects of the learning process in this cohort:

  • knowing whether your needs are being met and your rights are honored

  • the impact that emotional wellness plays on how ones life goes and

  • what makes a leader and why we are called upon to be leaders

The latter is one of the most important issues to me, because it shines a light on black girls as movers and shakers.

A servant leader is ready to ask the hard questions. They also are committed to looking for answers outside of the box, versus how some would normally look. A servant leader identifies injustices and finds a way to communicate the error in those issues while finding solutions.

Servant leadership matters because it emphasizes the good within us. It allows me to sharpen my tools in order to be a great leader.

My favorite quote is, 'I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept.' It was said by Angela Davis."

Paige is the proud daughter of Mrs. Michelle Henry and Mr. Philemon Henry.
